THRESHOLD – 4000

This is an extremely RARE Threshold and has the Custom Series LOGO on the Front of the Power Amplifier. This Threshold 4000 has a very clean face and nice contrasting attractive silver rack handles and is in good cosmetic condition. Also, it sounds very powerful, effortless and is extremely smooth with tons of headroom. The sonic signature is pure, relaxed, sweet, tube-like across the full frequency spectrum. The inner detailing is very impressive as well. It is a non-fatiguing listening experience. Threshold 4000 power amplifiers were one of those over the top, lunatic fringe power amplifiers created by the legendary audio amplifier engineer Nelson Pass. The Threshold 4000 literally stood the audio world on its proverbial ear when it was released. For once here was an amplifier that produced 200W x 200W RMS into 8 ohms in Class A output. Totally unheard of for the time and remains to this day one of audios all time cutting edge designs. The promise of high-end was finally realized in the early products from Threshold and the 4000 was the flagship amplifier from that era and still retains in flagship status today. Few amplifiers today can compete with the 4000 at any level. To find one today is one of audios great finds, seems that audiophiles that have them, keep them. Now that speaks volumes about the enduring legend of the Threshold 4000. These early Threshold amps were and remain lifetime products.
